Pre-Surgery Rehabilitation

Pre-surgery rehabilitation, often called "prehab," prepares the body before a planned operation such as a joint replacement, spine procedure, or ligament repair. Building strength, flexibility, and function ahead of surgery can make the days after the procedure easier to manage. Our team works with patients scheduled for surgery to establish a baseline and address movement limitations before the operation date.

What Prehab Sessions Include

  • Strength and mobility assessment — establishing how the affected joint or region moves and functions before surgery.
  • Targeted exercise — using resistance bands, dumbbells, and exercise mats to build strength in the muscles surrounding the surgical area.
  • Cardiovascular conditioning — stationary bikes and treadmills support overall endurance heading into surgery.
  • Pain and swelling management — electrical stimulation and ultrasound therapy can ease discomfort that limits pre-surgical exercise.

Who Benefits

  • Joint replacement candidates — hip, knee, or shoulder surgery patients working to protect surrounding muscle strength beforehand.
  • Spine surgery patients — individuals preparing for back or neck procedures who want to enter surgery with better core and postural support.
  • Post-injury surgical patients — those recovering from fractures or tendon injuries who need conditioning before a repair procedure.

Preparing the body before surgery is closely connected to the recovery work that follows, and our team can coordinate prehab with post-surgical rehabilitation plans once your procedure is scheduled.
