Osteoporosis Treatment
Osteoporosis Treatment
Osteoporosis reduces bone density over time, making bones more fragile and prone to fracture. Physical therapy can help by building strength around vulnerable areas, improving posture, and lowering fall risk through targeted balance work. At Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center of Brooklyn, our Osteoporosis Treatment program is designed around safe, progressive movement rather than high-impact stress on the skeleton.
What the Program Addresses
- Bone-Safe Strengthening — Gradual resistance work that loads muscles and bones without overstraining fragile areas.
- Posture Training — Exercises and cueing aimed at reducing forward-leaning posture and spinal stress.
- Fall Prevention — Balance and coordination work to reduce the likelihood of falls that could lead to fracture.
Equipment We Use
- Resistance Bands — Graded elastic bands that build strength gradually and can continue at home.
- Dumbbells — Free weights in a range of sizes for progressive, controlled strengthening.
- Exercise Mats — Cushioned surfaces for supported floor exercises and stretching.
- Balance Pads and Balance Boards — Tools that challenge stability in a controlled setting to retrain balance and lower fall risk.
Getting Started
Treatment typically begins with an evaluation of strength, posture, and balance, followed by a plan tailored to your bone health needs and daily activity level. Sessions are adjusted as strength and confidence improve.
